MORNING PRAYER / LAUDS

Opening Response and Invitatory

I was glad when they said unto me, “We will go into the house of the Lord.”                                                                      Ps 122:1

     Lord, open my lips

         and my mouth will proclaim Your praise!

O be joyful in the Lord, all you lands; serve the Lord with gladness and come before His presence with a song.

Be certain that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture.

O go your way into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise; be thankful unto Him and speak good of His Name.  For the Lord is gracious, His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures for all generations.                                            Ps 100

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.  Alleluia!

THE BENEDICTUS

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, who has come to His people and set them free. He has raised up for us a mighty Savior, born of the house of His servant, David.

Through His prophets, He promised of old that He would save us from our enemies, from the hands of all who hate us.  He promised to show mercy to our fathers and to remember His holy covenant.  This was the oath He swore to our father Abraham, to set us free from the hands of our enemies, free to worship Him without fear, holy and righteous in His sight all the days of our life.

You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare His way, to give His people knowledge of salvation by the forgiveness of their sins.

In the tender compassion of our God, the dawn from on high shall break upon us, to shine on those who dwell in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide our feet into the way of peace.          Luke 1:68-79

THE APOSTLE’S CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.  He descended to the dead.  On the third day, He rose again.  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.  He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.  Amen!

THE PRAYERS

     Let us pray …

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name; Your Kingdom come; Your will be done on earth as in heaven; give us today our daily bread and forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil for the Kingdom, the power, and the glory are Yours, now and forever.  Amen!

     O Lord, show Your mercy upon us;

         And grant us Your salvation.

     O Lord, guide those who govern us;

         And lead us in the way of justice and truth.

     Clothe Your ministers with righteousness.

         And let Your people sing with joy.

     O Lord, save Your people.

         And bless Your inheritance.

     Give peace in our time, O Lord.

         And defend us by Your mighty power.

     Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;

         Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.

     Create in us clean hearts, O God;

         And take not Your Holy Spirit from us.

THE COLLECT

Sunday – A Collect for Strength to Await Christ’s Return - O God, our King, by the resurrection of Your Son Jesus Christ, on the first day of the week, You conquered sin, put death to flight, and gave us the hope of everlasting life: Redeem all our days by this victory; forgive our sins, banish our fears, make us bold to praise You and to do Your will; and steel us to wait for the consummation of Your Kingdom on the last great Day; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen!

Monday – A Collect for the Renewal of Life – O God, the King eternal, whose life divides the day from the night and turns the shadow of death into the morning: Drive far from us all wrong desires, incline our hearts to keep Your law, and guide our feet into the way of peace; that, having done Your will with cheerfulness during the day, we may, when night comes, rejoice to give You thanks; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen!

Tuesday – A Collect for Peace – O God, the Author of peace and Lover or concord, to know You is eternal life and to serve You is perfect freedom: Defend us, Your humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in Your defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries, through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen!

Wednesday – A Collect for Grace – O Lord, our heavenly Father, almighty and everlasting God, You have brought us safely to the beginning of this day: Defend us by Your mighty power, that we may not fall into sin nor run into any danger; and that, guided by Your Spirit, we may do what is righteous in Your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!

Thursday – A Collect for Guidance – Heavenly Father, in You we live and move and have our being: We humbly pray You so to guide and govern us by Your Holy Spirit, that in all the cares and occupations of our life we may not forget You but may remember that we are ever walking in Your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Friday – A Collect for Endurance – Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first He suffered pain and entered not into glory before He was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the Cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ Your Son, our Lord.  Amen!

Saturday – A Collect for Sabbath Rest – Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all Your works and sanctified a day of rest for all Your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of Your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to Your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen!

A Prayer for Mission

O God, You have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent Your blessed Son to preach peace to those who are far off and to those who are near: Grant that people everywhere may seek after You and find You; bring the nations into Your fold; pour out Your Spirit upon all flesh; and hasten to coming of Your Kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen!

     Now, let us bless the Lord.

         Thanks be to God.

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit.  Amen!                     Rom 15:13
